The story of macKenzie
1983
In 1983 Ken started mowing lawns with one pick-up truck and a push mower. Later on that summer he added a rider to the fleet. At that point in time Ken worked out of a shed at his parents house in Waterville.
1984
In 1984 the MacKenzie fleet continued growing with the purchase of the first dump truck.
1985
In 1984 the MacKenzie fleet continued growing with the purchase of the first dump truck.
1992
There was a growing need to provide a place for homeowners to purchase small (or large) quantities of mulch, stone, soil, etc., so in July of 1992 MacKenzie opened a retail location on the China Road in Winslow. Adding a little more to the inventory each year until there was no more room to expand.
2005
In 2005 Mackenzie opened a new location on the corner of the Augusta Road and Carter Memorial Drive in Winslow. The 10 acres gives room to grow and add more to the product line. The concentration became more on the retail and wholesale end of the business by providing a convenient location to pick up a variety of materials for the do-it-yourselfer or contractor to complete their outside projects.
2025
In early 2025, Ken and Renee transitioned ownership of MacKenzie Landscaping to Jason Tyler and his team at Comprehensive Land Technologies (CLT). Jason founded CLT in 1995, building it from the ground up. Their reputation for honesty and integrity aligns with the values they’ve always upheld at MacKenzie Landscaping.
CLT is a local South China business specializing in woodlot management and civil construction, as well as producing landscaping products such as mulches, playground chips, erosion control materials, loam, and compost.
Renee and Ken continue to be involved. Renee assists customers with order fulfillment, patio and retaining wall design, and granite step selection. As for Ken, he remains in the yard, doing what he’s always enjoyed-though, admittedly, the specifics have often been a mystery to us all!
Through the transition, MacKenzie extends heartfelt gratitude to loyal customers for your trust and support over the years. MacKenzie will always strive to treat everyone with honesty and as if you are family.
